How to use Sigil.
The Canvas.
The sigil canvas is basically a white canvas that you create your signatures on. You can change the size or aspect ratio of the canvas if you want to have your signature exported to a particular aspect ratio
Canvas Orientation (Size / Aspect Ratio)
There are three (3) orientations to pick from - landscape, portrait and square. The default orientation is landscape.
The landscape orientation uses the 16 / 9 aspect ratio, the portrait orientation uses the 4 / 5 aspect ratio as most social media posts so you can use it for making a signed only post or have fun with it. The square orientation uses a 1 / 1 aspect ratio.
Background Colour
The default background colour is white. You can change the background colour to a custom one by toggling the Use Custom Colour switch and choosing a custom colour.
Ink and Ink Configuration.
Sigil allows you to create signatures that mimic using a pen-style stroke and a legal-compliant stroke. You can export your signature in either type of stroke.
Pen-style Stroke.
When the ink stroke is set to Pen-style, your signature will look like it's signed with a fountain pen with variable stroke width that look like a pen's ink. You can export your signature with this stroke or change it to be legal-compliant.
Legal-compliant Stroke.
Certain governing laws require that e-signatures generally have a uniform stroke width. If your usage requires this, you can use the legal-compliant stroke to ensure the signature has a uniform width of 2pts and can be used for all legal documents. You can create a signature in freestyle mode and switch to legal-compliant flow to change the stroke to a uniform width just before exporting and downloading.
Ink Colour
The default ink colour is black. You can choose between four (4) preset ink colours or select a custom colour. Each of the four preset colours mimics an actual pen ink colour so that you can use your signatures on documents that can still be printed, and it would seem like they were signed with your favourite pen. They are
- Black
- Blue
- Green
- Red
Exporting and Downloading Signature
The very essence of Sigil is to allow you have a signature you can use for other applications and documents where providing a signature may be a difficulty. Sigil provides exporting and downloading signatures in several formats.
Export Formats
Sigil allows you to export and download your signature in four different formats - SVG, PNG, WebP, and JPEG. Each of these formats allow to set a few different options for the specific format, including transparent backgrounds and signature clipping.
Background and Background Transparency
Certain formats allow you to export your signature with an opaque/transparent background. The SVG format only allows for a transparent background. The PNG and Webp formats allow you to choose either an opaque background or a transparent one. The JPEG format has a completely opaque background
Clipping
The layout of the canvas allows you to sign in any space with no restriction. This can lead to excessive space on the canvas and on the final export. If this isn't what you want to achieve, you can turn on the clipping switch to
